The villa takes its name from the mailbox embedded in its front wall with
the words "Regie Poste" or royal letters engraved on the box.
This mailbox originated from when the Italian monarchy ran the country's
postal system. In 1933 the first floor of Poste Regie was turned into
a local grocery and bar, while part of the second floor was converted
into an inn. Under Dina Peruzzi, Poste Regie also became a bakery making
it one of the locals' favorite spots in the province of Siena.
Poste Regie was also transformed into an elementary school for a short
period until it was occupied by the Germans during World War II. The northern
side of the house was bombed during the war but was later rebuilt. Following
World War II, Dina Peruzzi and her son Bruno continued overseeing the
grocery until 1958 when they moved to Siena.
It was not until 1991 that members from the Peruzzi family returned to
live in their ancestral home. In 1999 Beatrice Marzola,
Dina Peruzzi's granddaughter, became the owner of Poste Regie and converted
it into a bed and breakfast, where visitors can now enjoy the beauty of
the regional culture.
